AIGA is the professional association for design. We are the creative community in 72 cities. We influence the design ecosystem. We influence society. We are the design thinkers and visualizers. We are diversifying the profession. AIGA’s mission for 2017 and beyond is, “To empower all designers to succeed and grow at every point in their career.”
We are AIGA’s 69th Chapter. Established 2014.
Our goal is to unite design professionals in order to continuously improve the value of design, professional standards, and ethical practices in El Paso’s businesses, government, and media and to inspire and engage our community.
Local Membership, Portfolios, & Profiles
As a member, we want this chapter to serve you and your goals.
To align yourself as a professional with AIGA El Paso, the first step is accessing your member profile and member portfolio. In order to do this, simply go to my.aiga.org and sign into your AIGA account. This is where you will keep your membership information up to date. Under “My Account > Public Profile” you can fill out a short bio, upload a photo, and more.
Our website now highlights member portfolios as well. Simply visit portfolios.aiga.org and sign up/sign into the Behance network. Contact any of us to receive your AIGA Member Gallery Code to finish connecting your Behance portfolio and it will appear on the AIGA El Paso website.
To see other member benefits, take a look at the national AIGA website to view the full list and be sure you are subscribed to our newsletter to know when local benefits become available to El Paso members.
Some of our past events have included a tour of Tovar Printing, a talk and workshop lead by Aaron Draplin, and our annual Design Graveyard. As members you have access to discounts to partner companies, continuing education, and more.
The board and volunteers work hard to create programming year-round for local members. Some of our upcoming programming includes the Online Portfolios and Freelancing 101 workshop, a creative industry leaders roundtable in August, a pin-up show in September, and of course, our annual Design Graveyard in October.
If you have an idea for an event, please fill out our event proposal form and share your ideas with the board!
Our chapter is small and we want to tailor programming specifically for what we need. Your input is invaluable. Contact the board members anytime, join our Facebook group, or request an invite to join our Slack channel.
Initiatives & Committees
AIGA is leading the way to design a better world through their initiatives and we try to align our programming to reflect the values of our larger design community.
The largest AIGA initiative is Design for Good, reaching the impact of design beyond the commercial and implementing design thinking for social change, whether it’s poverty, race and gender equality, immigration, or other areas, together, we can design a better future. Design for Good strategic initiatives include Design for Democracy, Diversity & Inclusion, and Women Lead.
As part of its mission, AIGA nurtures initiatives such as the In-House Initiative, focusing on in-house designer’s unique opportunities and challenges, EMERGE, which focuses on junior designers and students, and more.
Committees that focus on these initiatives are often made in individual chapters to promote areas that are specific to their needs. If you have a passion for a specific need in our community (such as design education, cause awareness, or government), you can create your own committee to rally designers for your cause. All you need is one other person and a board member to start meeting.
“If you can design one thing, you can design everything.” – Massimo Vignelli
Let’s build our chapter, our industry, and our city together.
