Entering into the freelance market can be a bit daunting. Whether it’s trying to figure out how to pay taxes as a business, writing your own contracts and decipher legalese, or simply trying to brag about yourself so people know how awesome you are, there are a lot of hurdles to jump. AIGA El Paso’s mission is to enhance professional development through enriching learning opportunities at all levels. “Online Portfolios and Freelancing 101” is a workshop meant to do just that, lead by two members of our AIGA EP board.
Monica Soltero is AIGA El Paso secretary and a graphic designer and hand letter with over five years of experience in the creative industry and a lifetime of non-stop doodling and sketching. A graduate of NMSU, Monica is continually challenging herself to create and be involved in AIGA El Paso. These days, Monica works for Lara & Company Creative, a local design studio, and continues to find a work-life balance that allows for browsing Instagram for cute dog pictures, baking, or diving deep into a new book.
Veronna Corral is the vice president of AIGA El Paso. After graduating from UTEP with a BA in Graphic Design & Communication, Veronna started her own online freelance business, StudioVeronna, working individually and with teams for various national and international clients. Her team focuses on graphic design, web design, printing services, and 3D modeling primarily for startups and small businesses. Her enthusiasm for the design community has helped her advocate for design at UTEP, AIGA, and now the new Roderick ArtSpace community.
Together, these two amazing women want to help tackle the challenges facing fresh freelancers. Join us on July 8th for this workshop and keep an eye out for more educational programming for freelancers.
